Lucas Papademos is the compromise agreed by the parties in Greece for the post of premier of the country. Name the new prime minister was officially announced today the Greek presidential administration. The new government will be sworn tomorrow at 14.00.
Papademos will lead a caretaker government that will act to approve and implement the plan to counter the crisis, agreed by EU partners. Georgios Papandreou has already announced he will resign.
Who is Papademos? At age 64, he was Governor of the Bank of Greece, during 1994-2002, after which contributed to the country joining the euro area. Later, he became Vice President of European Central Bank (ECB), with Jean-Claude Trichet, from 2002 until 2010.
Papademos became adviser to Papandreou after he left the position of the ECB.
Professor of Economics, Papademos is credited to be an “intellectual engine” of the institution in Frankfurt. So far, he held at Harvard in the United States, a course entitled “Global financial crisis: responses and challenges”.
